Italy
Terracina is a sweet town
by the sea between Rome and Napels. The old historical center up on the hill
was inhabited by Romans two thousand years ago. There are beautiful hills and
hiking trails in the area.
The "Centro
Storico" is like an open air museum! You can reach the beach by walking
within minutes. The beach long, lovely with white sand for several kilometers.
In the background towards the sunset, you can see the contour of Mount Circeo.
There is a ferry leaving
from the harbor every morning to the Ponza islands. Capri can also be visited
in one day. Pompei is another pint of interest, as well as Sperlonga, the
nearest city south of Terracina.
It is easy to reach the
surrounding areas by bus. It is best to take the train to Rome and Naples. You
certainly don't need a car in Terracina, but there's the possibility of renting
a car. There are many shops and restaurants both in the old town and in the new
part of town. The market on Thursday mornings is fun and exciting.
Time in Terracina will certainly be more exciting in
September of 2006, because I am going to be there with some friends to study
Italian and teach painting. Check out
my workshop plans and
Pictures of
Terracina.
